Other methods have been discussed. For example, mods could be crippled. DBM didn't exist back then, and the other boss that did that I don't remember the name of, didn't do as much back then as DBM does now. If our goal is to recreate the experience as it was, then obviously not having DBM would be a reasonable way to accomplish that. DBM simply existing, makes the game today easier than it was. So disallow it. Again, this is completely consistent with the spirit of vanilla. Remember one-button-decursing? That was nerfed. They crippled the capabilities of the modding API to disallow that because it made the game too easy. So what if they cripple it a little bit more to once again make the game less easy?
The enchanted tattoos given to the demon hunters serve a purpose far beyond looking cool or giving them some kind of identifying mark. Rather, it is because of these tattoos that the demon hunters are capable of their hunt for long periods of time, adding to them as they continue in their journeys, grow in power, and require stronger bindings upon the growing well of fel magic within their bodies. The most intricate of tattoos are laid upon Illidan Stormrage’s body, followed by the oldest of night elven demon hunters. Beyond their usage to keep the demon within under wraps, they also perform several enchanted effects upon the individual which is oftentimes largely up to the type of enchantment desired. These can vary by making the demon hunter more resilient, stronger, faster, able to cast more potent spellcraft, and other things. Between the demon within and their enchanted tattoos, the demon hunter has taken their steps toward leaving their mortality behind.

Unlike many other classes, writing a demon hunter carries with it a necessity for a call to action for the character in question. For those writing a night elven demon hunter, this call to action is wildly different and varies heavily from each individual whereas those who are writing blood elven demon hunters have only one true avenue for their path: those sent to Illidan Stormrage by Kael’thas Sunstrider to train to become demon hunters.

However, that’s not the full extent of Blizzard’s announcement. The developer behind World of Warcraft Classic has also announced that it will release a closed beta test for chosen (note this word) players to participate in. The closed beta is meant to test Blizzard’s servers, which I’m guessing will be pretty full once the game actually releases. In player vs. player designated zones, you will still be viewable and attackable by players, but you are not left completely defenseless. While engaged in a Pet Battle, any attack from another player will break you out of the battle. You will receive a 3 second damage shield that will absorb 50% of incoming attacks. Within the context of Classic, the method most frequently proposed is to re-tune bosses to make them harder. Rather than copying the numbers, re-create the relative difficulty. Kind of like, when you first start working out, you use small weights. When you get stronger, you lift bigger weights. The WoW community is more knowledgeable, more experienced, has better hardware, etc. We're "stronger." So give us tougher bosses. There are a lot of forms that could take. Bosses were constantly re-tuned during vanilla anyway, so if Ragnaros does 10% more damage or something, is that really a problem? I don't think it is. What about resistance gear? back in the day, collecting resist gear was a thing people did. But the numbers and strategies are so well known today that only the tank really needs it anymore. Bosses could be re-tuned with more resistible elemental damage so that's important for entire raids to gear appropriately. That would be entirely keeping with the spirit of vanilla even if the actually numbers sitting in a database somewhere were different than they were ~13 years ago. If you want to go a little farther, a few people have proposed adding new abilities to old bosses, adjusting their timing, etc.
While the avenues for a blood elf to become a demon hunter are limited, that does not mean that the story for this character is limited, regardless of following a particular path. What did your character do prior to the destruction of Quel’thalas? What drove your character to believing in Illidan’s cause so much more than Kael’thas’ own during his defection? What did your character accomplish during their time serving under Illidan and Kael’thas throughout northern Lordaeron, Outland, and Northrend? What does your character think of their people in the wake of Kael’thas’ death?
Occasionally it's also been proposed to re-randomize all the gear. We didn't have best in slot lists back then. People weren't starting out as a fresh level 1 character with a complete list of which dungeons to run at 60 in order to gear as quickly and efficiently as possible. Now, all that data is available. If gear were re-randomized then all of those lists would become useless and thing would be close to how they were. Which is a more important part of the "vanilla experience?" the fact that item X from boss Y has exactly Z stats on it, or the voyage of discovery? Personally I think that voyage is way more important. Do you remember how many points of which stat on the ring or whatever that Darkmaster Gandling drops? I don't. Would it kill your experience if the BiS for every class were in a different dungeon so people had to actually play to figure it out rather than simply consult a spreadsheet? I don't think it would. For that matter, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to handle it intelligently so that the better gear is in later dungeons. I remember there because some weird cases where level 40ish gear was better than anything that dropped in level 60 dungeons.

For the duration of the fight, creatures in the immediate area will not be visible to you (but they may still attack you if they wander too close). Keep in mind that other players will still be able to see you and attack you if you are eligible for player vs. player (PVP). Other players will also be able to view your pet battle in real time, including the pets involved as well as their health as the match progresses.


Succubus: In the same vein as the imp avoids harm, the succubus is known for slipping in and out of sight on the battlefields, attacking when least expected, and relishing in the pain delivered to their opponents. In the same vein, both pain and pleasure enact a power to the succubus. To the demon hunter bound to a succubus, this might showcase itself with a particular knack for invisibility spells, turning pain into power, and even an affinity with the use of charm spells. 

The system is automated, meaning that once slots are available, beta testers will be chosen, without any beta key to speak of. Kaivax then goes to stress the importance of your account security, stating that, “any third-party e-mail messages, websites, or in-game whispers that offer beta keys or access to the WoW Classic Beta should be considered illegitimate and ignored or reported.”
Regardless of the brotherhood shared by the Illidari in their single-minded mission, there is a level of disconnect between Lord Illidan’s demon hunters and the rest of his forces. While this is by no means enforced, it is basically self-imposed by the demon hunters themselves, as the blood elves inhabiting the Grand Promenade had no issue to Vandel spending some of his free time there with their denizens. Furthermore, the bond of brotherhood is not as strong as one might expect between two demon hunters, as during their training and sparring sessions, there is nothing that stops one party from killing another so long as they maintain control of their inner-demons. Just the same, there are those within Illidan’s forces that zealously believe and follow his teachings, mentality, and machinations without question but it is not wholly uncommon for some demon hunters to either question, doubt, or even outright disagree with their lord’s ideals and methods.

If the only entity you're ever communicating with for days to weeks at a time is the demon soul inside of you, it might be hard not to start losing touch and eventually your marbles, especially if your inner demon is especially manipulative (nathrezim, shivarra, succubus, etc) and does more than just constantly offer you MOARPOWAH. However, you might be terrified of actually getting attached to anyone, you don't want the Legion to use that against you. Random, fleeting encounters with complete strangers in taverns and the like is the middle ground you need, to see all of these people and (well hopefully, depends on the crowd) remember what you're trying to protect in the first place, to maybe see children shopping with mama in the market place, or to hear some soldier in the bar talking about his old man back home.
Felguard: The shocktroopers of the Burning Legion, always seeking out the greatest threat in any particular battlefield. Crazed berserkers, the Burning Legion’s generals have to do little more than trust in their instincts and unleash them upon the battlefields. Demon hunters who bind themselves to the soldiers of the Burning Legion would no doubt become more physically brutal, broad, and capable of withstanding inhuman pain.
In regards to the Night Elven demon hunters, where did your character stumble upon the necessary mentor to become a demon hunter? What made your character want to walk the path of becoming a demon hunter? What did your character do prior to becoming a demon hunter? How long has your character been a demon hunter? What adverse effects has your character endured because of their being a demon hunter for (blank amount of time)?
To me, certain character limits tend to be problematic not because of the length of actual content, but because of formatting tags and embedding taking up a lot of characters. This is something I experience on most of websites, not just this one, but the most aggravating issue over here is linking to user profiiles and other sources of strategies, which could be alleviated with internalisation of link paths and @mentions.
When it comes to Classic, Blizzard's goal is to provide an authentic Vanilla experience, but they also needed to come up with technology to handle many players at launch, which is similar to sharding. While the use of this technology will be limited to the first month following launch, many players are questioning this decision and wouldn't like to see layering in the game at all.

To get back to Classic for a bit, this is what I think is happening. Players who prefer the old ways (and full disclosure, I'd count myself among them, but to a smaller degree than most) complain/talk about the negative sides of modern WoW and Battle for Azeroth in general. While they do this they also talk about how things were better before and often mention Vanilla as a reference point. People who enjoy BfA now feel attacked by this and so they retaliate. Hence, liking Classic means you either have nostalgia goggles on or have no idea what you're talking about and will hate the same things you say you want 2 weeks after you start playing it. It's an amazing thing, where literally each side is doing to the other what they feel is being (wrongly) done to them. I feel like writing this is the most redundant thing I've ever done, and yet I also feel that it needs to be said, because it seems some people just don't get what they're doing, or at least I hope they don't (some do and are doing it on purpose but there's trolls everywhere so there's no point in even discussing them).

Felhound: The felhounds serve the Burning Legion as their devourers of magic, their forerunners, and torturers of spellcasters. An endless desire to devour magic is their greatest trait, especially when paired with their endless appetite for wickedness. Demon hunters who bind themselves to these creatures are no doubt the masters of defeating spellcasters, seeing their spell-weaving enemies as little more than fonts of power to draw from.

Blizzard has given us a pile of new information on World of Warcraft Classic, including the fact that it’ll finally release this August. But you won’t have to wait quite that long to start playing for yourself – the WoW Classic beta goes live tomorrow, May 15. This is a closed beta, and Blizzard says it’s pretty limited in scope, but there will be more chances to play heading into the WoW Classic release date.

One of the best ways to make gold in World of Warcraft is to obtain valuable items and sell back on the Auction House for a profit. Farming allows you to do this with little to no money up front or professions needed. It is completely acceptable, but harder to write, that your character has been a demon hunter sometime after the War of the Ancients. This is no different than people who have written ancient druids, and it poses the same exact problems in writing. I would not recommend this to anyone who is not a seasoned veteran when it comes to writing characters, as the longer your character has been a demon hunter, the older your character is, the more difficult to control the fel magic within, the more detached from society, and the more withdrawn they may become. Overall, it becomes incredibly harder to write.
I consider myself a purist in that I would prefer classic to be released as close as possible to the original. Where that is on the spectrum of patch content will be up to blizz. I'm also not vane enough to believe that any single state of the game is the "Ideal" location we should be aiming for. There is common ground that we can agree on, and I would welcome more than a few changes as long as they are made in the spirit of keeping classic on the vanilla rails.
